Topic: Avoiding Loss of Control in the Traffic Pattern, Upset Recovery
Thursday, October 12, 2017, starting at 19:00 EST
Speaker(s): Tony Johnstone , ATP, Gold Seal CFI , FAASTeam Rep.
Brief Description: An interactive presentation by an experienced Aerobatic CFI discussing potential loss-of-control situations in and around the traffic pattern. Discussion of Recoveries from Extreme Attitudes.
Additional Details: Loss of Aircraft Control continues to be a significant cause of aircraft accident fatalities. Many of these occur in the vicinity of an airport during departure and approach to landing. Stall-Spin events are the most common direct cause, and all should be preventable by improved piloting skills and awareness. The seminar will discuss strategies to avoid these events, focusing on basic aerodynamics, understanding stall-spin dynamics, and recognizing situations which may precede them. Recovery from extreme unusual attitudes, such as may occur from a wake turbulence encounter, will also be covered.
